Help is on the WAY!

The alarm goes off.  I fell asleep this morning at 3am trying to finish gluing the darts to magnets.  I fire up the glue gun and hammer out 35 more darts.  I am really excited to hand out the schedule for Sunday School toay.  I type it up and pray.  Help is on the WAY!  It really is.  I haven't sat in a Sunday morning service since...I can't remember...last Summer?  Last Spring?  The rotation has begun, and I have the next 6 weeks off.  Oh, to wake up and just show up to church and say "What can I do to help?" will be so exciting for me.  It sounds so small, but it's SO HUGE.  Help.  It means so much.  We should all help each other somehow, someway.  It's a huge bummer when you ask for help and there's nothing but silence on the other end.  You just do what you can do and move forward.  I've prayed for this season for so long.  Now, it's finally here.

It takes me about 10 minutes to load up my car for church: digital projector, extension cords, power strip, cable cord, water filtered pitcher, half and half, creamer, vacuum cleaner, big ball, lesson plan, Bible, coloring pages, a visual picture, crayons/markers, game stuff - today it was 100 darts that I glued, 2 magnet boards and tape for the boundary line and whatever else helps me with visuals for the lesson.  I used Army men, a flashlight and candle for my lesson.  Whew! I can't wait until we have our own building to store stuff!!!

We sang such encouraging songs to today!  The music was so one with what everyone seems to be going through.  Everyone just felt free to be before the Lord and worship.  It was beautiful.

The Lesson was fun.  Army men, don't knock it until you try it.  They are the best examples I've ever used for showing kids "the big picture."

The Rap afterwards, wow.  So many people were healed emotionally.  It was full of LIFE!  I can't wait to hear the message.  Pastor has been preaching on the Armor for weeks now.  We ALL need to hear this.

Jessica came over this afternoon.  I love her.  She's great.  "The after rap rap."  It's like convention every week here - not just during the last week of convention in Baltimore.

My mom called because she felt so sad today.  The rain in the winter time is tough for her.  She said just hearing my voice cheered her up.  It would be so easy for me to live at home for free; but, how would that decision help towards the Plan God has for my life.  Easy isn't always best.

I didn't get a lot of sleep this week.  So, I rested this evening.  Yes, that's rare, but I don't feel guilty about resting.  I can't be used if I abuse my body.

Line of the Day: Pleroma Aroma and I love you mom.
Lesson of the Day: No matter how good the Sunday School lesson is, no matter how amazing the capacity of the kids, going too long with the lesson drowns out the "aha moment" that was my goal to get to.  I am learing the balance of being excited that they got it with wanting to keep on going and teaching them more.

Window Shopping

My name is Lysa.  This is my very own personal blog.  Many of you have been waiting for a newsletter, or a visit, or an email, or a phone call, or a simple text.  I think that this will be the best way for you to go window shopping in to what is going on in my life.

I have been living in Havre de Grace, MD now for 16 months as a Missionary.  Much has happened.  It may be recovered in deep one-on-one conversation with you someday, but for now, I can only recollect the day and move forward.

Today, Saturday January 23, 2010:

The Greater Grace Church of the Chesapeake Team met at the Chesapeake Grill on Route 40 in Havre de Grace (HdG) this morning at 10:45am to go Evangelizing.  All that means is that we get together every Saturday to love people up, encourage them from door to door.  We also lead the unsaved to Christ at this time.  We pray with people right at the door of their home for healing, jobs, reconciliation, forgiveness...everything.  I met Betty in the parking lot.  She gave me a Yankee Candle that she has been holding for me for Christmas.  It was perfect timing.  I LOVE candles, and I particularily LOVE the scent she choose, Christmas Cookies.  YUMMY!  This started today with such an intimate yummy from God bestowed unto me.  I receive you Lord.  I LOVE YOU LORD!!!  Thank YOU so much for LOVING me.

Pastor Ronaldo Brown, head Pastor of the Greater Grace Church in Lusaka, Zambia, Africa.  I visited his church back in...2005?  It was awesome.  A fantastic pleasure to have him be a guest in our church today.

I went soul-winning with Ed Murphy and Todd.  We hit the doors behind the Laundry Mat on Route 155 of HdG.  We met Nancy who was so grateful that we stopped by.  She doesn't have a church right now, but she became a Christian at a very young age.  She didn't know that our church was 2 minutes from her apartment.  We prayed that God would give her a full-time job before we left.  We just loved her up for a good 15 minutes.  Loving people like that really makes you forget about all of the yucky stuff that is going on in your own life.  The second amazing door was Rodney.  He is a 23 year old chef that just moved back home from Boston.  Smart, hungry for the Word.  He dropped everything that he was doing to join us for the Afternoon Rap.  He really encouraged me today.  Thank YOU LORD for your encouragement and blessing.

The Afternoon Rap was a great time of fellowship.  Scott opened up the rap, Pastor Wright followed him, and we finished with Pastor Ronaldo.  Sweet, sweet portions.  At 1:32am in the morning, the one line zingers that I can remember are:  "I may not be thinking much, but the little that I'm thinking could be damaging to my soul."  "When you have trials in your life, God is making a recipe.  He is cooking something up.  He mixes the Word of God with a pinch of the enemy and a spoon of the man of God--all in just the right portions.  He is the one who is cooking, so He is in control of the situation."

Diona, 11 years old, and I went to visit my cousin Brenda Speer in Lancaster.  We met them at the Shady Maple Restaruant.  It's the biggest buffet in Pennsylvania...and in my humble opinion, the best.  I took Diona and Donny, Brenda's son, down to the Gift Shop below, which is the size of Super Wal-Mart.  We had such a great time together.  Donny said, "Miss Lysa, I always love doing stuff with you."  Wow, what can you say to that?  Diona was so overwhelmed with excitement.  I told her that I shouldn't have let her have all of that sugar!  She said, "It's not the sugar Miss Lysa.  I'm just really happy.  I had such a great time with you."  Double wow.  I always get blessed when I take the time to bring others with me.

We crashed a Christian Banquet there.  There was a drama dance team getting ready out in the lobby to perform.  I took a picture of them and asked if we could come in and watch them.  They were glad to have us.  So, we watched them.  Donny just loves God, so he was content.  Diona, I have been dreaming of her doing the very thing that we were watching together for over a year now.  Wow, what a seed that was planted tonight!!!  I have an email that I am sending the picture to.  Who knows what will happen between our church and New Hope Baptist Church in Reading, PA.

We finally drove back to Litiz to drop Donny off.  Brenda was able to share baby room ideas with me.  That was special for both of us.  She is having a Cea-Section February 19.  Just days away.  Two boys so far, and now, finally a girl.  I'm so overjoyed for them.

Diona and I always have such a Divine time in the car ride home.  It's great.  It's so full of love and support.  It re-energizes me.  I need those times.  After I dropped her off, I still had to go to Wal-Mart to prepare the game for Sunday School.  Fiery Darts.  I bought magnet rounds with self-adhesive.  I am hot gluing them to foam darts.  There will be magnetic boards for each team.  Whoever can get the most darts on their board/shield wins..

Lastly, I have to type up the Sunday School rotation.  After teaching Sunday School with Julie Abbott as my Helper for about 9 months, we had a meeting last Sunday for volunteers to help so that we can be at the Sunday morning services as well.  Six volunteers came out: 3 teachers and 3 helpers, perfect!  Then, I want to staple a letter of encouragement with a sample lesson plan.  I already have the creamers and half and half purchased for tomorrow so I don't have to run anywhere in the morning.

This is just a typical day in the Window of Grace.
